What is a math circle?
The Boise State University Math Circle explores topics with deep roots in mathematics that school courses don't usually cover. The topics are accessible to students of all backgrounds, and the sessions are geared toward upper-middle and early-high school students.
We work on open-ended problems with BSU professors and mentors, in areas like game theory, graph theory, and number theory, and we figure them out together as a group. If you enjoy math, you're welcome to come, and you can bring friends too.
When and where
Math circles meet about once or twice a month while school is in session, and each one lasts around an hour and a half. They're held at Boise State University, the Treasure Valley Math and Science Center, or somewhere else depending on the session.
What I do
I help plan and run the sessions with the other mentors and professors. The math circle had been inactive since the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2025 we brought it back.
Come to a session
Anyone who likes math is welcome, and you can bring friends too. Dates and updates are posted on Boise State's math outreach site.
